Meverly at Cold Stone Creamery April 2004

Meverly is alert and active – a little girl who needs a family that can give her stability, structure and consistency. She is doing very well in her foster home because these things are being provided for her. Meverly is soft spoken and polite and, during a recent visit with her adoption worker, she indicated that she really wants a mother and a father to care for her. She is in good physical health, but has a diagnosis of Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD); however, an updated evaluation may be done in the near future to review this diagnosis. She is receiving counseling services to help her work through the events of her past, as well as help her to be able to express her feelings and emotions.
Meverly is doing great at school. Her Individualized Education Plan (IEP) has recently been updated and several of the special services she was receiving have been dropped due to her notable improvement. She is also proud to tell people that all of her grades are A’s and B’s! Meverly attends art, computer, library, music and science classes, as well as recess and lunch, with her classmates, and receives special education services for math, reading, writing and spelling. Meverly needs a lot of encouragement and assistance in order to complete her homework. However, Meverly says that she likes school – especially math and English – and that she enjoys writing and looking up definitions for her social studies class.

Meverly was in the Special Olympics this past summer in both volleyball and basketball, and she has expressed interest in trying bowling next. She loves to eat pizza, jump rope, play basketball and is very good at doing the hula hoop. She also likes to play with her dolls and style their hair and watch TV and movies. Meverly is very friendly and social and she has many friends from school who she spends time with. She also enjoys animals, especially dogs. She needs an environment that provides her with a lot of structure to get through her day – and also caregivers who can show her patience, understanding, willingness to help and support her and, most importantly, unconditional love.
